“Did you hear about Geoffrey? He just lost yet another job.”

“That’s the third one this year isn’t it?”

“Fourth I think. Poor man can’t seem to hold down a job, whatever he does.”

“I don’t know about poor. From what I heard about him he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, never wanted for anything in life. He probably thinks he’s above having a job like all us regular folk. Besides, it’s not as though he needs to work, does he, with that great hulk of an estate he was left by his father.”

“Oh dear no, you must have misunderstood. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth —quite literally! Apparently the doctors couldn’t make heads of tails of it, they’d never seen anything like it before! Didn’t you ever wonder why he could never hold down a job? And that estate isn’t really worth a fraction of what it looks like it is and anyway, he still needs the capital to keep it going. No, poor Geoffrey’s tried to get a job all his life, but they never last — he can’t face the public looking like that can he? And he can hardly do manual labour — he’d be considered an occupational hazard. He’s been fighting for years to get it legally recognised as a disability so he can at least claim some benefits, but no-one will take him seriously.”
